Description
Other functions:the purpose of this task order is to develop & validate the tools, technologies, and concepts to overcome the barriers to practical high-speed vehicles. The primary focus area for the project is the development of tools and integrated concepts that will enable demonstration of overland supersonic flight with acceptable sonic boom with the near-term technical challenges of 1) low sonic boom design tools, 2) sonic boom community response metric and methodologies and 3) low noise propulsion for low boom aircraft. In addition to the near-term technical challenges, other longer-term research includes high altitude emissions, cruise efficiency, aeroservoelasticity, flight systems, and scramjet propulsion. One of the key areas the high speed project is currently investigating designs for a low boom flight demonstrator. These designs tend to be long, slender and flexible and present unique challenges in the realms of flight dynamics and handling qualities. This task is focused on developing the tools needed to accurately model and predict the flight dynamics of a low boom flight demonstrator and providing analysis of vehicle handling qualities.
