Description
Other functions:the purpose of this task order is to: assess potential hazards in the execution of flight tests in support of the alternate fuel effects on contrails and cruise emissions (ACCESS) project. These hazards have been properly identified as 1) engine flame-out as a consequence of wake turbulence ingestion; 2) loss of control because of a wake vortex encounter; and 3) structural damage to the dassault falcon instrumentation airplane as a consequence of wake and other turbulence. The nesc is focusing on the structural analysis hazard and secondarily loss of control to the extent that event impacts the structural analysis activity. A key part of this overall analysis is a characterization of the flow fields created by lift- induced wake turbulence. ACCESS intends to sample engine exhaust in both the near-field (less than 40 wing spans behind the test aircraft) and far-field (40 wing spans and more) of the wake lifetime. To support the structural analysis, nesc has requested wake turbulence expertise to provide wake turbulence expertise to complete this analysis.
