Description
Other functions:the purpose of this task is to conduct research into new design concepts for a modular transonic test section with passive ventilated walls including enhanced optical access. A new design will permit fundamental facility research, such as study of wall interference correction techniques and application of modern fluid dynamic measurement techniques under high reynolds number conditions. The new design concept will also enable simplified operations for improved productivity and reduced costs. Follow-on work could address facility control, or other issues. The objectives of this task are to study contemporary design concepts for transonic facilities, notably test sections, so as to identify emerging design trends and hence to evolve a comprehensive design concept for a new test section for the 0.3-meter TCT. The new test section will be adaptable so as to simulate the behavior of a variety of transonic facilities, initially the NTF. Aerodynamic and structural analysis will be conducted, so as to verify the soundness of the final design concept. Detail design and costing are not considered part of this task.
