Description
On-demand aircraft concepts, both manned and unmanned, are being pursued that require improved physics-based tools, vehicle developmental research, and sub-scale demonstration of key enabling technologies. Tasks are outlined that will provide improved structural modeling and analysis capability through the NASA vehicle sketch pad (VSP) tool, conceptual design of transformational flight vehicles, and fabrication and testing of sub-scale prototypes and specific enabling technologies in electric flight and inflatable structures. Research objectives the objectives of this research are to: investigate the potential of the VSP geometry tool to parametrically model internal geometry and feed higher-order analyses. Perform conceptual design analysis of on-demand baseline and advanced concept `ZIP electric and autonomous manned aircraft. Design, develop, fabricate and test sub-scale prototypes of unmanned on-demand uavs. Design, develop, fabricate and test electric propulsion control for a multi-samara vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) UAV concept. Design, develop, fabricate and test inflatable wing structures for unmanned uavs.
