Description
The purpose of this task is to perform experimental research tasks as part of a rotorcraft aerodynamics team. The team objective is to conduct state-of-the-art, cutting edge research in a major NASA wind tunnel with rotorcraft powered model systems to increase the understanding of complex aerodynamics of rotor systems. Several power systems (e.g. general rotor model system (GRMS) and two-meter rotor model system (2MRTS)) that drive complex rotor systems in simulated edgewise flight are used in NASA langley S 14- by 22-foot subsonic tunnel facility. The general goals of these experiments are to understand the interactional aerodynamics and extract information in the form of aerodynamic and dynamic forces produced by the rotor system in forward flight and hover. The net magnitude of these forces (and moments) as well as their distribution is important. Advanced diagnostics (e.g. particle imaging velocimetry, photogrammetry, pressure sensitive paint) are developed and used as required.
