About this award

This is a delivery order (task order) under the Specialized Engineering, Evaluation and Test Services (SEETS) contract (NNJ11HB94C) awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to The Aerospace Corporation, a non-profit federally funded research and development center (FFRDC). The task order, valued at $299,995, continues The Aerospace Corporation's support to NASA's Flight Opportunities Program (FOP) in facilitating the commercial development of suborbital flight and orbital small satellite launch capabilities. This task order focuses on advancing technologies and capabilities relevant to increasing the supply and demand for suborbital and orbital flight, with potential synergies with other Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) initiatives. The contract is not set-aside and does not mention any major subcontractors. The Aerospace Corporation has received numerous prime contracts and grants from NASA, the Department of Defense, NOAA, and other agencies to provide technical expertise and advisory services for civil, defense, and commercial space programs.

Description

Task order no. NND15AA78T U.S. Commercial suborbital flight vehicle and orbital small satellite technology and capabilities advancement the flight opportunities program (FOP) is attempting to help foster a sustainable suborbital market by facilitating access to near space for a variety of users through the U.S. Commercial reusable suborbital industry. The NASA FOP office has utilized the contract with the the AEROSPACE corporation (AEROSPACE) to support IT in awarding efforts to develop the suborbital market. NASA awarded the specialized engineering, evaluation and test services (SEETS) contract (NNJ11HB94C) to AEROSPACE in april 2011 as an agency indefinite quantity indefinite delivery (IDIQ) contract that is administered by the NASA johnson space center (JSC). Most of the previous task orders issued to AEROSPACE by the NASA armstrong flight research center (AFRC) were to develop a model based on the ECO-physics of launch, for characterizing market demand for suborbital reusable launch vehicles (SRLVS) to gain market insight. The model became an integrated management decision tool that was used by NASA FOP to evaluate flight provider proposals. The last task order was to help examine the feasibility of construction of a hybrid rocket motor propulsion unit for cubesat. A cubesat is a type of miniaturized satellite for space research. This task order continues the use of AEROSPACE to support FOP in facilitating commercial development of suborbital flight and orbital small-SAT launch capabilities. The FOP is tasking AEROSPACE to provide expertise and assistance with advancement of technologies and capabilities relevant to increasing supply and demand for suborbital and orbital flight, focusing on synergy with other space technology mission directorate (STMD) initiatives.
