Description

NASA has identified four technical areas to address in this project based on the technical challenges identified from meetings and discussions with UAS stakeholders, past experience with access 5, and requests from other government agencies. The five subprojects identified for this project are: separation assurance human systems integration (HSI) communications certification integrated test and evaluation separation assurance will address issues related to ensuring adequate air vehicle separation in the NAS, as well as defining operational requirements for current and future missions. HSI will address issues related to developing ground control station (GCS) standards and modifications for NAS compliance. Communications will address issues related to ensuring robust and secure data communications, and constraints of frequency spectrum allocation. Certification will address issues related to airworthiness and type design of UAS, especially their automated systems. Certification will also define an appropriate classification scheme for a wide range of UAS vehicles that will facilitate application of safety standards. Integrated test and evaluation (IT & E) will conduct system-level testing (simulations and integrated flight demonstrations) of key concepts, technologies and procedures defined by the technical areas in operationally relevant environments. The contractor shall support the IT & E and HSI subprojects: 1) IT & E systems engineering support, 2) IT & E systems integration and test engineering support, 3) HSI subject matter expert support, 4) HSI software development support
