Description
The project work is to install automatic ADA door openers at five park facilities including: boott mill counting house, boott mill 6, mogan cultural center, kirk street agents house, and notini maintenance facility. The goal is to improve independent ADA access and address safety and security for park staff and visitors at the facilities. The doors identified in this project currently meet the bare minimum required under existing abaas standards. The proposed series of hardware modifications will make the doors more accessible, lessen the chance of injury, and improve visitor access to various park buildings. The project will retrofit nine existing doors with automatic door openers. At the counting house, there is an existing ADA door that will be retrofitted with the installation of an automatic door opener. Automatic door openers will be installed on one leaf of the two pairs of boott mill first floor metal doors that provide access from the weave room exhibit to the first floor elevator lobby. At the opposite end of the first floor weave room, IT is proposed to install automatic door openers on one leaf of each of the two sets of glass doors that provide access from the gift shop/visitor contact station and the weave room. On the boott mill second floor, the work will retrofit one leaf of three pairs of metal doors that provide access from the boott mill second floor elevator lobby to the boott cotton mill exhibit. At kirk street agents house, there is an existing rear elevation handicapped ramp providing access to an existing egress door. The wood door will receive an ADA automatic door opener. The automatic door opener operation needs to function in conjunction with an existing camera and electronic door lock. The unlocking is controlled from two workstations located remotely on the opposite side of the building. The camera and electronic lock were installed to provide security access to the parks administration building. Staff activate the electronic lock after verifying that IT is safe for the non-staff visitor to access the building. The main public entrance to the notini maintenance facility has an existing ADA ramp. The door does not have an automatic door opener. The work will install an automatic door opener. The work of this task order consists of performing all necessary investigations, inspections, and studies to identify the best means to rehabilitate the building's exterior. The final design will include a base construction package that will not preclude future phased construction in a cost effective and efficient manner. Construction documents will be based upon final design as approved by NPS.
