Description

Gateway national recreation area, complete sandy hook multi-use connector, phase 3 (gate 113101C), monmouth county, new jersey--this project will complete the sandy hook multi-use pathway (MUP). This third phase of construction will add approximately 0.97 miles to the existing MUP. The existing portion of the MUP allows pedestrians, cyclists, in-line skaters and wheelchair users to safely enjoy the park without competing with motorists. This project will provide the same benefits in areas where few sidewalks or other safe alternatives exist and provide various connections to the existing sections of the MUP. The work of this contract consists of design and construction of three additional segments of the MUP to complete a trail loop throughout the fort hancock area of sandy hook - the nine gun battery connector, the HQ plaza connector, and the gunnison battery plaza connector. A new pedestrian plaza at the terminus of the nine gun battery connector will be designed and installed. The design for the plaza will be detailed during the design of the project.
