Description
Statement of work background: edison national historic site has been funded for the purchase and installation of high density storage equipment to maximize efficient use of space on the 2ND and 3RD floor of building 5 in the thomas edison laboratory complex. Several alternatives regarding type, location and configuration of storage equipment have been developed by the park with assistance by the NPS northeast museum services center. The preferred alternative at this time is to utilize room 312 on the third floor as the location for the storage units to be located. Task: the NPS requires a one- day reconnaissance site visit by a structural engineer from IDIQ a/E einhorn yafee prescott, architecture & engineering P.C. During the site visit, the structural engineer will perform a preliminary assessment of the overall structural condition of the building with emphasis on the issues concerning the third floor framing system at room 312 and provide a brief written report describing existing conditions, nature of deterioration and damage, recommendations for treatment, recommendations for additional investigation (if any), and preliminary cost estimate (conceptual, class C ). In addition, assessment and commentary will be required on the following: existing floor loading capacities. Repairs and augmentations to provide necessary floor loading capacities for the intended storage plans for the space, which would include shelving, cabinets, high density storage and other concentrated loading. (preliminary plans available for review). The structural engineer will assess the adequacy of the existing bracing system and make recommendations for interim improvements to the third floor framing system as required to accommodate storage plans for the facility. The structural engineer will provide sufficient information for the NPS to prepare a written outline scope of work to apply for funding necessary for the design of repairs and augmentation of the floor structural system . This is the only work to be performed under this task order. Schedule: 1. Site visit: no later than two weeks after award of task order 2. Receipt of site assessment report: no later than 2 weeks after site visit
