About this award

This firm-fixed-price delivery order was awarded by NASA's Ames Research Center to FSC Edge Corp. for the development of a National Airspace System (NAS) Adaptation Server for air traffic management decision support tools. The contract supports NASA's NextGen Airspace project, which seeks to demonstrate new concepts and technologies to improve airspace operations under increased traffic demand and complexity.

The NAS Adaptation Server is intended to replace the existing Host system adaptation data used by NASA's Center/TRACON Automation System (CTAS) software. This is necessary due to the Federal Aviation Administration's deployment of the new En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) system, which will replace the existing Host systems at all U.S. FAA centers. The contract has a ceiling value of $214,063.00 and a completion date of April 1, 2011. The contract was not set aside for any specific business category.

Description

Recovery act-clin 1 development of a NAS adaptation server for air traffic management decision support tools recovery act-clin 1 development of a NAS adaptation server for air traffic management decision support tools this procurement is being awarded to support NASA in pursuing air traffic management research in support of the nextgen airspace project. The project seeks to demonstrate new concepts and technologies to improve airspace operations under the increased traffic demand and complexity envisioned in the future air transportation system. NASA has developed and continues to maintain a suite of air traffic management (ATM) tools that are used in the research and development advanced concepts and technologies. The NASA ames research center developed ctas to research and simulate scheduling and conflict avoidance algorithms for air traffic controllers working in the tracon and artcc airspaces. The data that defines the airspace an ATM tool covers, such as sector boundaries, airways, airports, and routing waypoints is commonly referred to as the site adaptation. Ctas presently uses the site adaptation defined by the host as the basis for its airspace definition. Due to the complex nature of the raw host adaptation, the data are processed into a format that can be more readily used by ctas. The federal aviation administration (FAA) is in the process of deploying a new air traffic control system, the EN route automation modernization (ERAM), to replace the existing host systems at all 20 US FAA centers . The federal aviation administration (FAA) is in the process of deploying a new air traffic control system, the EN route automation modernization (ERAM), to replace the existing host systems at all 20 US FAA centers . As a result, the host adaptation will no longer be available to provide a basic airspace definition for ctas and a replacement will need to be identified. Since ERAM is replacing the air traffic functionality of the host for controllers, ERAM site adaptation is one many candidates which could provide the necessary basis for airspace definition for ctas in the future.
