Description
Flexible path lower torso assembly - several new missions are being traded for the next major human space fligh program that present a wide variety in required mobility for a lower torso assembly. Some missions rely on astronauts conducting evas from the end of a robotic arm in microgravity while, at the other extreme, some mission require astronauts to walk across a planetary surface and perform geologic exploration. The common functional mobility requirements for all scenarios are to provide the mobility to dock to a suit port and make self-adjustment to boot fit after suit donning via a suit port. In order to better understand the affects of key lower torso mobility features when used in conjuction with a suit port for a variety of mission scenarios, NASA desires to design, build, and test a prototype lower torso assembly capable of manned operation at increased delta pressures and of interfacing with a suit port compatible upper torso in multiple test environments. The results of this effort will be used to validate architecture assumptions and to provide data to higher level trades.
