Description
Other functions NASA has developed the terminal tactical separation assured flight environment (t-tsafe), a tool for tactical conflict detection in terminal congested airspace. T-tsafe was developed to address limitations of conflict alert (CA), the legacy conflict probe used in the field. CA limitation included a high rate of false or late alerts. T-tsafe has been shown to significantly reduce false alerts and provide alerts with adequate lead-time. T-tsafe also alerts for loss-of-separation whereas CA only alerts for collision. T-tsafe is expected to significantly increase safety within congested terminal airspace. In order to transfer this technology to the FAA, NASA needs to assess the feasibility of integrating t-tsafe into the standard terminal automation replacement system (STARS). As part of NASA s national goals of expeditiously transitioning research technologies into the national airspace system (NAS) getting early understanding of the challenges to implementation of its advance systems is critically important.
