About this award

This is a federal contract awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 to Government Scientific Source Inc., a leading distributor of laboratory products and equipment. The contract, valued at $337,059.00, is for the procurement of a specialized analytical system containing a preconcentrator, gas chromatograph, and a highly sensitive mass spectrometer. This system is designed for atmospheric sampling and analysis, with capabilities to utilize alternative carrier gases beyond just helium. The contract was awarded under the General Services Administration (GSA) Scientific Equipment and Services schedule, and does not have a set-aside designation. Government Scientific Source Inc. has experience providing a variety of scientific products and services as a prime contractor on federal contracts with agencies such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Veterans Affairs, and National Institutes of Health.

Description

The system contains two input sample preparations, a canister autosampler and a thermal desorption autosampler for atmospheric sampling tubes. The preconcentrator operates under ambient conditions with built in cooling and requires no liquid nitrogen. A gas chromatograph mass spectrometer analytical system is connected to the preconcentrator. The mass spectrometer has the ability to resolve to less than 1 AMU, is extremely sensitive and a very rapid data acquisition rate to allow the software to effectively deconvolute complicated spectra. The source of the mass spectrometer also is capable to operate down to 14 EV below the ionization energy of either hydrogen or nitrogen, making IT possible to effectively unitlize cheaper alternative carrier gasses besides helium.
