Description
The project will result in a graphic-heavy document that provides examples of appropriate design flexibility, while also filling gaps specifically for rural and suburban contexts. IT will serve as a follow-up to fhwa s bicycle and pedestrian facility design flexibility memorandum and will incorporate information from the 1997 flexibility in highway design document. A detailed discussion of trade-offs in different design scenarios will be provided and references to existing design guidelines and resources will be provided. The final document will emphasize how design flexibility can help meet other goals such as safety, pedestrian and bicycle network creation, community resiliency, economic development, context sensitive solutions (CSS), green streets, and livability.
