About this award

NRC Environmental Services Inc., a San Diego-based environmental remediation firm and subsidiary of US Ecology Inc., was awarded a $140,000 delivery order by the U.S. Coast Guard on April 16, 2009, to provide emergency pollution mitigation services under Federal Project Number S09016. The contract required NRC to supply all necessary personnel, vessels, equipment, and supplies to raise the sunken vessel Renee Maria from the Pacific Ocean approximately 7.5 nautical miles southwest of the Queets River mouth in Washington. Under a time and materials pricing structure, NRC coordinated with other Coast Guard-contracted firms to refloat the vessel and transport it to port, operating under the direction of the Federal On-Scene Coordinator with a performance period of approximately April 15–30, 2009. This delivery order was issued under a basic ordering agreement with no set-aside designation.

The contract addressed an urgent environmental response need, as the sunken vessel presented a substantial pollution threat to public welfare that required immediate action. NRC Environmental Services' selection reflected its established expertise in marine environmental services, including hazardous material disposal and vessel-support operations, capabilities developed through prior engagements with federal maritime agencies. The firm's place of performance was designated as Portland, Oregon, positioning it appropriately to respond to the coastal emergency in the Pacific Northwest.
