About this award

This is a Cost Plus Fixed Fee delivery order awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Langley Research Center to Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation, a prime contractor, to perform an independent analysis of the Single-Aisle Turboelectric Aircraft with Aft Boundary Layer Propulsion (STARC-ABL) advanced concept. The goal is to gain confidence in or identify discrepancies with the conceptual-level system trends of the STARC-ABL design, with a focus on the block fuel weight for the design and economic missions. This task order was issued under NASA's Basic and Applied Aerospace Research and Technology (BAART) Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. The potential value of this order is $735,987.00, and there was no set-aside used.

Description

Analysis of the single-aisle turboelectric aircraft with AFT boundary layer propulsion (starc-ABL) advanced concept the intent of this study is to perform an independent analysis of the starc-ABL concept, an advanced low-wing turboelectric commercial transport. The starc-ABL concept was initially described in aiaa-2016-1027, and further research has identified similar system level trends with minor modifications to the previously published design, such as a mach 0.785 cruise speed. Due to the short duration of this task, there is no expectation of advancing the concept maturity beyond the conceptual level as described in aiaa-2016-1027. Instead, the goal is to either gain confidence in the conceptual level system trends of the starc-ABL concept or identify discrepancies that warrant potential further study. The block fuel weight for the design and economic missions is the metric of interest.
