This federal contract award NNX10RA64P, valued at $100,000.00, was issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Research Center to Atmospheric Observing Systems, Inc. for the development of high-altitude carbon dioxide (CO2) analyzer technology. The technology is intended to be deployed on NASA's Airborne Science Program research aircraft to support the calibration and validation of CO2 observations from spacecraft. The contract has a small business set-aside...
The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a $749,468 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II contract to Mesa Photonics LLC, a small business based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The contract is for the design and development of a flight-ready prototype of Mesa Photonics' Airborne Multi-Gas Sensor (AMUGS) technology, which uses two-tone frequency-modulated spectroscopy to detect carbon dioxide and methane with high sensitivity. The AMUGS prototype will be...
This is a $899,157 fixed-price Small Business Innovation Research (STTR) Phase II contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Opto-Knowledge Systems Inc. (Oksi), a small business based in Torrance, California. The contract is focused on developing and demonstrating a new sensor platform for isotope and trace-gas analysis that can support future planetary missions, including the search for evidence of life within the solar system. The proposed sensor system...
This SBIR Phase II contract was awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Aerodyne Research Inc., a manufacturer of advanced atmospheric monitoring and analysis equipment. The $748,670 contract is for the commercialization of a cryogen-free pre-concentrator system based on a Stirling cryocooler and novel sample trap design. This system is intended to enable highly sensitive and precise measurements of trace atmospheric gases and isotopes, which are used to evaluate...
This is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II contract awarded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to Aerodyne Research Inc., a small business based in Billerica, Massachusetts. The contract is for the development of an "Ultra-High Precision Laser Isotope Monitor for 13CO2, CO180 and CO170" and has a ceiling value of $399,996. The contract is a Firm Fixed Price definitive contract with a completion date of August 12, 2018. This SBIR Phase II...
This is a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Southwest Sciences Inc., a small business, for the development of an airborne instrument to measure carbonyl sulfide (OCS) in the atmosphere. The instrument uses a room temperature interband cascade laser operating in the 4800-4900 nm region, which has substantially reduced power requirements compared to quantum cascade lasers in the same spectral region....
This is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Intelligent Optical Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of optical sensing and instrumentation technologies. The contract, with a potential value of $124,971, supports the development of a compact humidity monitor to detect low parts-per-million by volume (ppmv) of water in oxygen and methane gases. This capability is critical for in-situ resource utilization...
This is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract awarded by the Shared Services Center, a federal civilian agency, to Aerodyne Research Inc., a small business based in Billerica, Massachusetts. The contract, valued at $124,999.00, is for the development of a highly sensitive and compact device to monitor light absorption from atmospheric aerosols simultaneously at three spectral regions (red, green, and blue). The proposed device is primarily based on the differential...
This contract was awarded by the Shared Services Center, a civilian agency, to Aerodyne Research Inc., a small business manufacturer of advanced scientific instruments. The $749,999 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II contract is for the development of a highly sensitive and compact RGB DPAS aerosol absorption monitor for NASA's airborne measurement program. The contract is part of NASA's Advanced Gas Sensing Technology for Space Suits program and is set aside for small businesses. The sensor technology is designed to be...

AOS HAS SHOWN THAT IT IS FEASIBLE TO USE THE COMBINED NASA/SBIR RESOURCES FROM PHASES I AND II TO: (I) BUILD A TURN-KEY ANALYZER SYSTEM THAT HAS THE DUAL-BAND/DIFFERENTIAL ARCHITECTURE AND IS SMALL, LIGHT AND SENSITIVE ENOUGH TO BE DEPLOYED IN THE SMALLEST ZONE OF THE GLOBAL HAWK (GH); (II) DEMONSTRATE TRL 9 AND FLIGHT READINESS OF THE ANALYZER SYSTEM FOR DEPLOYMENT ON THE GH AND (III) VALIDATE THE ANALYZER SYSTEM FOR OBSERVATIONS OF CO2 DMF BY DOUBLE-BLIND COMPARISON WITH THE FLASK SAMPLING TECHNOLOGY OF NOAA/GMD AND BY BROADBAND COMPARISON WITH AN AOS ANALYZER SYSTEM THAT HAVE BEEN VALIDATED ON HUNDREDS OF AIRBORNE MISSIONS. THE NET RESULT OF PHASE II WILL BE A TRL 9 CO2 ANALYZER SYSTEM THAT CAN BE DEPLOYED ON THE GH AS NEEDED FOR NASA FIELD STUDIES AND VALIDATION OF CO2 SATELLITES.
