Added: Nov 06, 2009 8:46 am SOURCES SOUGHT FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY. The National Park Service is seeking sources to determine the availability of concrete shingle manufacturing and installation firms with the capability to produce and install concrete fiber shingles that match shingles produced and installed on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the 1940s. It is paramount that the historic fabric be preserved as the shingles will be installed on buildings in a developed area, some of which are adjacent to and highly visible from the Parkway. The NAICS code for this project is 327390, small business size standard is 500 employees, or 238160 small business standard $14M. This project is solicited in accordance with the Small Business Competitiveness Demonstration Program, Public Law 100-656 and Federal Acquisition Regulation 19.10. Accordingly, it is open to all small and large responsible offerors. The work will include replacing approximately 1600 sq ft of shingles on tee (3) historic buildings at Doughton Park located at Milepost 241 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC. Also required is the replacement in kind of all vents, drip edge, flashing, snow guards, etc. as well as the lined wooden gutters and downspouts to provide a completely restored roof and drainage system. The existing shingles are natural color concrete with a 3/8" deep reinforcing rib on the back and wire reinforcing embedded around the perimeter. The exposed surface has random striations on top and two randomly spaced holes near the top edge for fasteners. All shingles are 20' in length with variable widths. Each shingle tapers from " at lapped end to 5/8"at the exposed edge which is beveled at 45 degrees. The restored roof shall carry a 50 yr. warranty on the concrete shingles and a 3 yr warranty on all other materials and workmanship.
