About this award

Lockheed Martin Corporation has been awarded a $1.5 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract by the Department of the Air Force to conduct research supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory's Composite Airframe Life Extension program. The program seeks to develop technologies to safely extend the certified service lives of existing aircraft with advanced composite primary structures. Under this contract, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company will identify, develop, demonstrate and validate analytical models and testing approaches for determining the residual strength, durability, damage tolerance and reliability of composite materials over original and extended service lives. This work supports the Laboratory's goal of establishing predictive tools and inspection techniques to demonstrate life extension of specific aircraft components without full structural replacement or repeated certification. There is no set-aside designation for this award made pursuant to a Broad Agency Announcement soliciting proposals in areas including inspection techniques and predictive modeling tools.
