The U.S. Forest Service awarded a $4,030,032 definitive contract to HME, Inc. (doing business as HME Ahrens-Fox) for Type 3 fire engine bodies on September 30, 2026, under firm fixed-price terms with an ultimate completion date of September 30, 2028.
The contract delivers thirteen Type 3 fire engine bodies mounted on government-furnished 4×2 crew cab chassis and four mounted on government-furnished 4×4 crew cab chassis, all custom-built to Forest Service national standard specifications and NFPA 1900 standards. Scope includes chassis modifications, fire pump installation (Darley Model HSP 250 GPM single-stage PTO-driven), 600-gallon water tank, LED warning lights, graphics package, operational training, and delivery to designated locations in Arizona and California.
