Description
The digital twin concept will improve upon fleet management methods by incorporating asexperienced loads and environments, and as-built aircraft components into an individual monitoring and prognosis approach. The development of this methodology and execution thereafter will be dependent on advancement in parallel algorithms for numerical modeling of fatigue cracking, and organization and storage of large data sets in a standardized, accessible manner. Currently, the ability to predict where and when microstructurally-small fatigue cracks will initiate is the focus of the digital twin research. However, the software required to carrying out high-fidelity simulations, required for such predictions, is lacking. The algorithms required to enables these simulations will be identified and implemented within an existing code, feawd. The algorithms chosen for implementation will be used to support development of the digital twin framework. Verification and validation of the code will result from close collaboration between HDF group and NASA collaborators performing physical experiments.
