Description

NASA glenn research center (GRC), in collaboration with great lakes science center (glsc), requests support for a multifaceted education initiative that will engage students and the general public in learning about the vital research conducted by NASA at GRC and in related career opportunities. GRC's groundbreaking research spans aeronautics, communications technologies, energy conversion and storage, materials for use in space, and medicine in space. Our project will invite participants to learn about this research through interactive "research lab" exhibits at the glenn visitor center at glsc; demonstration carts that GRC will make available at schools and other offsite locations; and professional development workshops for educators at informal education institutions that will develop stem teaching skills and disseminate project and NASA education resources. The project will reach over 300,000 participants a year at glsc and through demonstration carts and other outreach. GRC scientists will advise the project on science research content. An external evaluator has already conducted front-end research (i.e., visitor knowledge and attitude towards the subject matter) and will conduct formative evaluation to use audience feedback to improve design and summative evaluation to assess the effectiveness of the project.
