Description
Eastern shore of virginia broadband authority for the counties of accomack and northampton for broadband deployment the eastern shore of virginia broadband (ESVBA) is installing a fiber optic network (the network) that goes from virginia beach to the wallops station. This network benefits NASA as well as the entire eastern shore community. Installation is currently underway to place a 144 count fiber optic cable across the chesapeake BAY bridge-tunnel (CBBT). Installation has begun to extend that fiber from the north toll plaza at the CBBT to wallops station. The ESVBA network will interconnect with maryland broadband CO-operative (MDBC) where the ESVBA will be able to extend its services to other areas using the MDBC network. Conversely, MDBC will utilize the ESVBA network to reach their potential customers along the eastern shore of virginia. In virginia beach, the ESVBA is planning interconnections with COX, cavalier and/or other telecommunication carriers. With these interconnections at both ends of the network, the ESVBA will be able to provide diverse paths from multiple carriers to NASA at the wallops location as well as other potential customers on the eastern shore. In addition to the backbone fiber, the ESVBA is designing and building a series of distribution or "middle mile" routes to reach our communities. Fiber networks throughout the shore communities, allowing connection for key businesses are known generally as our "community networks." the first of these community networks, parksley and cape charles are already designed and will be bid for installation shortly. Additional community networks and spurs will continue to be built as funds allow. The network is an open access network which allows for qualified service providers to use the ESVBA network to get to their end customers. Wireless, ISP, telephone and other certified providers will be encouraged to provide new services at a competitive price along the eastern shore.
