Description
NASA extreme environments mission operations 18 the objective of the joint underwater missions is to continue to utilize the aquarius reef base (ARB) habitat as an analog for spaceflight and long-duration space habitation to support the NASA extreme environment and mission operations (NEEMO) analog missions. NASA and other partners will work together with the FIU to accomplish these missions. During a mission, crewmembers and research personnel conduct experiments, develop and refine strategies and protocols, and learn more about both the expected and unexpected challenges of spaceflight. Many objectives are achieved, such as techniques for operating in extreme environments with and without a communications latency, biomedical engineering and research, behavioral and physiological science, crew and mission controller techniques, leadership and interpersonal skills training for the astronauts/aquanauts, exploration operations concept development, and maturation of technologies in a realistic environment prior to implementation on the international space station (ISS). Task: provide use of all facilities and associated support services for mission preparation and real time support. This includes the undersea habitat, training, operations, mission control support, boats, technical diving equipment and dive team support, certified operators, housing, use of the communication network, and all related safety and operations equipment (e.g. decompression chambers) required to complete this NEEMO mission.
