About this agency
The Space Development Agency, a defense agency within the Department of Defense, procures space technologies, systems integration, and related research services to support the Department's military space operations and capabilities. The SDA operates as a standalone acquisition authority with delegated procurement responsibility for its developmental and operational space programs.
The SDA has awarded 9 federal contracts totaling $8.9 million since 2021, with all obligated dollars now drawn down. Award activity closed in 2022 and no awards have been issued in the four years since. The agency issued 4 contracts in 2021 and 5 in 2022, then ceased recorded contract activity. No recent contract opportunities are reported against the agency.
Competition is highly fragmented by award count and by potential value. Among the five primes appearing in the most recent portfolio window, each holds a single award. Arkham Technology LIMITED and Nkrypt, Inc. are the largest by potential value, each at $1.7 million; Kitware Inc. follows at $276 thousand. The remaining three primes—Novaa LTD, Government Acquisitions LLC, and three additional vendors not named in the top-five tables—split the remainder. The top five primes account for 45 percent of combined potential value, indicating a dispersed vendor base with no dominant player.
The SDA favors small-business set-asides. Two-thirds of awards (6 of 9) are designated Small Business; the remaining third used no set-aside. All contract spending has been obligated; no option years or unexercised contract ceilings remain in the reported portfolio.
The SDA does not conduct federal grant-making activity. No grant opportunities are reported against the agency.
Because no awards have issued since 2022 and no solicitations are currently open, the agency presents limited near-term pursuit opportunity. Firms tracking the SDA should monitor for resumption of solicitation activity; current silence suggests the agency may be between procurement cycles or realigning its acquisition strategy.
