About this agency

The Department of Health and Human Services Administration on Aging, a sub-agency within HHS, administers aging-focused federal grant and contract programs, including funding for senior services and aging-related research and operations.

The Administration on Aging has minimal recent contract activity. Seven total federal contract awards have been issued since 2006, with the most recent award dating to April 2013. The portfolio totals $2.1 million in combined potential value, of which $1.9 million has been obligated. All seven awards were issued to distinct prime contractors with no set-aside designations. Activity was concentrated in 2006 (four awards) and 2010 (two awards), with only one award in 2013; no contract awards are recorded after that date. Given the thirteen-year gap since the last recorded award, contract activity at the agency is inactive.

Grant activity represents the primary transactional footprint. The Administration on Aging obligated $96.8 million in federal grant funding across 112 awards, all issued as Formula Grants in 2009. The 56 distinct grant recipients absorbed this funding in a single grant cycle; no subsequent grant awards are recorded in the portfolio. The complete absence of grant activity since 2009 indicates that the current grant portfolio is no longer active.

No recent contract opportunities or grant opportunities are recorded against the Administration on Aging or its descendant offices.

Description

The Administration on Aging is the Federal focal point and advocate agency for older persons and their concerns. In this role, the Administration on Aging works to heighten awareness among other Federal agencies, organizations, groups, and the public about the valuable contributions that older Americans make to the nation. The Administration also alerts others to the needs of vulnerable older people. Through information, referral and outreach efforts at the community level, the Administration seeks to educate older people and their caregivers about the benefits and services available to help them.
