Q4: In the drawings they are showing grout and leveling nuts with the columns starting 2.5” above finished floor. In a structure like this grout and leveling nuts are not necessary. Usually in a pre-engineered building those are only required and used when there are cranes in the building. Is the grout and leveling nuts necessary or can we remove that?
A4: Not necessary unless there is a concrete deviation to account for. But, there shouldn’t be any.
Q5: I do not see any guidance in the drawings for insulation. I know this is an unheated structure so I will assume no insulation in the roof or walls. Our recommendation in a building like this is always to put 3” or 4” of insulation in the roof for 2 main purposes: 1. Noise reduction and 2. Condensation blanket. Without this insulation they are likely to get condensation on the inside of the roof panels and water dripping. Please advise if insulation should be included for this purpose.
A5: MG&E is our utility. Contractor must coordinate directly with them. They may have to hire MG&E as a subcontractor or arrange to do the work under their direction. Michael Beeler Engineer III - Service Engineering and Operations Support, Madison Gas & Electric MBeeler@mge.com , 608-252-7087 (office), 262-825-7695 (cell). This work is part of the project.
Q6: Are soil boring reports available for this area.
A6: No, the engineer refers to soil data and bearing capacity on sheet S-001, Structural Design Criteria, Geotechnical Design Data.
Q7: Sheet C-041 indicates to “furnish and install new uninterrupted cables from Bldg. 700 service connection block to point of service connection @ each location including bldg.. 716, service to elec. Gate, keypad, intercom and camera (not shown).”
a. Please clarify where the service connection block is in Bldg. 700
b. Please clarify where the service point connections are for Building 716 (and location of Building 716)
c. Please clarify where the gate, keypad, intercom and camera is located
A7:
a. In Comm room approximately center of building
b. I attached information that may be helpful. I understand the severity of weather made the Site Visit difficult. The Site Visit is meant for discovery of these kinds of things.
c. At the gate to the MSA compound we passed through during the Site Visit
Q8: Sheet C-041 indicate “to Bldg 710 & 711 service point connectors” and nothing is shown. Can you provide more information regarding the location of Bldg 710 and 711 as well as the service point connectors?
A8: There is NOT a single point of service in each building like you normally have with a power system because the main control is in building 700. Advantor is our sole source for security systems including “As-Built” drawings. Security systems include, IDS (Intrusion Detection System), CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) and alarms. Your drawings should be dated December 2018, Specs December 2018 and Addendum 1, December 10, 2018. The addendum provides sole source contact information. Advantor is the only one that can touch any part of their system.
Q9: 4. Are soil boring reports available for this area.
A9: No, the engineer refers to soil data and bearing capacity on sheet S-001, Structural Design Criteria, Geotechnical Design Data.
Q10: Since building is un-insulated; Varco Pruden won't issue any type of warranty on the roof and wall panels due to the high probability of condensation on interior of panels. Would need to provide, at a minimum, 3" thick, faced fiberglass insulation (roof and walls) for condensation control AND "roof rumble" control. Please confirm if the 3” roof and wall insulation should be included. Refer to no. 2 above.
A10: Refer to no. 2 above.
Q11: 2.4.A.4. specifies uniform depth column, drawings indicate tapered columns are acceptable. Please clarify.
A11: I do not understand the reference but… Yes, columns may be tapered.
Q12: Specification Section 133419 and the contract drawings are silent with respect to PEMB insulation requirements. There are potential SSR warranty and condensation issues that may arise from an uninsulated building. Please clarify fabric liner scrim and minimum roof/wall R values, if desired.
A12: PEMB – Pre-engineered Metal Building; SSR – Standing Seam Roof; SCRIM – in this context; is insulation that is covered (wrapped). Typical for metal buildings to have a poly-fabric over the insulation. It comes in large rolls (not like the insulation you probably recognize). It’s basically a large insulating blanket
