About this file
This is a technical specification for resilient flooring installation (Section 09 65 00), effective November 2024.
The specification establishes requirements for luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring systems, requiring conformance to ASTM F1700 Class III with a minimum 0.020-inch wear layer and 0.177-inch overall thickness, non-slip backing, and 36x36-inch square tiles with factory protective finish. Products must be asbestos-free and comply with multiple industry standards including ASTM F1066, F1344, F1859, F1860, F2034, and F2195 for various flooring types. Adhesives must meet either CDPH Section 01350 emissions requirements or SCAQMD Rule 1168 VOC content limits, with aerosol products meeting GS-36 standards. All flooring materials and adhesives require third-party indoor air quality certification through FLOORSCORE, UL 2818 (Greenguard Gold), or SCS Global Services Indoor Advantage Gold. Sustainable wood components must be certified by FSC STD 01 001, ATFS Standards, CSA Z809-16, or SFI 22 with chain-of-custody documentation. Fire resistance testing requires a minimum critical radiant flux of 0.45 watts per square centimeter for corridor and exit flooring per ASTM E648 or NFPA 253. Installation requires surface preparation to ASTM F710 standards with moisture and alkalinity testing per ASTM F1869 or F2170, glue-down application, floor flatness within 3/16 inch per 10 feet, and environmental conditions of 70-85°F maintained for three days before through two days after installation. Shop drawings, product data, samples, test reports, and operation/maintenance documentation require government approval, with extra materials at 5% of installed quantity provided in original marked containers from the same production run.
