Federal Register documents
Search Federal Register rules, proposed rules, and presidential documents, open one to read its dates, amended sections, and full text, and save a search to get alerts for new documents.
Click Federal Register Documents, or open GovTribe, expand the sidebar if it is collapsed, expand Regulations, and click Federal Register Documents. You need to be signed in: Federal Register document pages are not public.
GovTribe keeps the rules and proposed rules published since 1994 that touch 48 CFR (the FAR and agency supplements such as the DFARS and GSAR), 13 CFR (SBA programs, including size standards), or 2 CFR (grants and agreements), plus every presidential document, such as executive orders and proclamations. See the Federal Register document data type for what each record holds.
Search Federal Register documents
For reusable guidance on quotes, required terms, alternatives, exclusions, grouped terms, and choosing between modes, see Choose a search mode and write queries.
Results open sorted by Publication Date, newest first. A search also matches a document's exact identifiers, so you can search by:
- an FR Doc. number, such as
2026-20317; - a Federal Register citation, such as
91 FR 63243; - an executive order, such as
EO 14275; - a Regulation Identifier Number (RIN), such as
3090-AL14; - a docket, such as
FAR Case 2023-008.

Get alerts for new documents
Save a search to get an email when new documents match it. For example, to hear about new proposed DFARS rules:
Filter the documents. Click Add Filter, choose Document Type, and select Proposed Rule. Add Regulation and select DFARS.
Save the search. Click Save This Search, name it, turn on email alerts, and choose Instant, Daily, or Weekly.

The header shows the document type, whether its comment period is open, its Federal Register citation and publication date, its FR Doc. number, and the action, such as Proposed rule. Use FederalRegister.gov and PDF to open the official version.
Overview
- Summary shows the document's summary, or its abstract when it has no summary, and the dates section as printed.
- The badges show the type, citation, publication date, comment deadline, effective date, and agencies. An agency links to its GovTribe page when GovTribe matched it.
- Identifiers lists the RINs, dockets, Regulations.gov docket, and the regulations the document touches. Comment on Regulations.gov opens the comment page while one exists.
- Regulations Affected lists the sections the document amends and the CFR parts it names. Each links to the current text on eCFR.

Full text
Full Text shows the summary, dates, supplementary information, and regulatory text, about 40,000 characters a page. Use the section buttons to jump to a section, and Next Page and Previous Page to move through a long rule.
Common questions
Is a correction its own document?
Yes. A newer correction keeps the type of the document it corrects and links to it under Corrections. An older one is typed Correction and usually names nothing. Filter on Correction to find both.
Why can't I share a Federal Register document page publicly?
Federal Register document pages are for signed-in GovTribe users. Share the FederalRegister.gov link for someone without a GovTribe account.
