Update your AI application after a GovTribe MCP update
Refresh connected AI applications after GovTribe MCP adds or changes tools so ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Codex, and developer clients can see the current GovTribe MCP capabilities.
Use this guide after GovTribe announces a GovTribe MCP update, when a connected AI application does not show a new GovTribe tool, or when ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Codex, or another developer client appears to be using an older GovTribe MCP tool list.
GovTribe MCP updates can add new tools, improve existing tools, or change the way tools are described to AI applications. Some AI applications discover those changes automatically. Others need you to refresh the app connection, update tool permissions, restart the client, or start a new session.
Before you refresh
Confirm that:
- Your GovTribe account still has access to GovTribe MCP.
- GovTribe credits are enabled for your account.
- The AI application is still connected to GovTribe.
- Your AI workspace allows apps, connectors, or MCP tools.
If the connection itself is missing or disconnected, reconnect GovTribe first. Use Connect GovTribe MCP to ChatGPT, Connect GovTribe MCP to Claude, Connect GovTribe MCP to Microsoft 365 Copilot, Connect GovTribe MCP to Codex, or GovTribe MCP for Developers.
Refresh ChatGPT
Refresh the GovTribe app in ChatGPT when GovTribe releases new MCP capabilities and ChatGPT does not appear to see them.
Open ChatGPT settings. Open Settings in ChatGPT.
Open Apps. Select Apps.
Open GovTribe. Find GovTribe in the app list and open the GovTribe app settings.
Refresh the app. Choose Refresh so ChatGPT reloads the current GovTribe app and MCP tool definitions.
Start a new chat. Open a new ChatGPT conversation, attach GovTribe from the app picker if needed, and ask a small test question such as which GovTribe tools are available.
If ChatGPT still does not use GovTribe after the refresh, confirm that GovTribe appears as connected in ChatGPT and that your workspace still allows the GovTribe app.
Update Claude tool permissions
Claude can show new GovTribe MCP tools in the connector settings before those tools are enabled for use in conversations. Review the GovTribe connector permissions after a GovTribe MCP update.
Open Claude connectors. In Claude, open the connector settings or go to Claude connectors.
Open GovTribe. Select GovTribe from the connected connectors list.
Review tool permissions. Check both Read-only tools and Write/delete tools. New tools may need a permission setting before Claude can use them.
Choose the permission level you want. Use Always Allow only when you want Claude to use that category of GovTribe tools without asking each time. Choose an approval-based option when your team wants to review tool use before it runs.
Start a new chat. Open a new Claude conversation and ask Claude to use GovTribe for a small lookup before returning to larger research or capture workflows.
If Claude lists GovTribe as connected but does not use GovTribe tools, return to the connector settings and confirm the relevant tool category is not blocked.
Refresh Microsoft 365 Copilot
Refresh the GovTribe agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot when GovTribe releases new MCP capabilities and Copilot does not appear to see them.
Open Microsoft 365 Copilot. Sign in to Microsoft 365 Copilot from your Microsoft 365 account.
Open agents. Select Agents or All agents.
Open GovTribe. Select the GovTribe agent.
Start a new agent conversation. Open a new GovTribe agent conversation and ask a small test question.
Re-add if needed. If GovTribe is missing or stale, return to Agent Store, search for GovTribe, and add or request approval for the agent again.
If Microsoft 365 Copilot still does not show GovTribe after you add it, your Microsoft 365 admin may need to make the agent available to your organization.
Refresh developer or CLI clients
Developer APIs and command-line clients can handle GovTribe MCP tool updates differently. Refresh the connection when a client lists stale tools, cannot find a newly announced GovTribe MCP tool, or returns an error that suggests the tool schema changed.
Restart persistent clients. Restart CLI clients, desktop clients, local agents, or long-running jobs that cache MCP server details.
Reconnect the MCP server. If the client has a reconnect, reload, or list-tools control, use it to fetch the current GovTribe MCP tool definitions from https://govtribe.com/mcp.
Check Codex status when you use Codex. Run codex mcp list from the CLI, then use /mcp in a Codex session to confirm GovTribe is connected.
Confirm authentication. Make sure the client is still sending the active GovTribe MCP API key as the provider authorization token or as Authorization: Bearer <GOVTRIBE_MCP_API_KEY>.
Run a small test. Ask the client to list available tools or run a low-risk GovTribe search before using the updated connection in production workflows.
Use Connect GovTribe MCP to Codex for Codex setup details. Use GovTribe MCP for Developers for API, Gemini CLI, Claude Code, and MCP Inspector setup details.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | What to check |
|---|---|
| The new tool does not appear in ChatGPT | Refresh the GovTribe app from Settings > Apps > GovTribe, then start a new chat. |
| Claude shows GovTribe but will not use a new tool | Open the GovTribe connector and review the permission setting for the relevant tool category. |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot does not show GovTribe | Open All agents or Agent Store and search for GovTribe. If the listing shows Request approval, submit the request or ask your Microsoft 365 admin to enable GovTribe. |
| Codex shows GovTribe as configured but not connected | Confirm GOVTRIBE_MCP_API_KEY is available in the shell or IDE environment that starts Codex, then restart Codex and check /mcp. |
| A developer client still lists old tools | Restart the client, reconnect GovTribe MCP, and run a list-tools or small test request. |
| The client returns an authentication error | Confirm credits are enabled and the GovTribe MCP API key is active, not expired, and sent in the format the client expects. |
| The app was disconnected instead of stale | Reconnect GovTribe using the setup guide for that AI application. |
