About this opportunity
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, operated by Stanford University for the Department of Energy Office of Science, seeks design and manufacture of a BL18 In-Vacuum Undulator, with proposals due October 30, 2026 and questions due September 25, 2026. Amendment 03, effective October 6, 2026, extended the proposal deadline from October 16 to October 30.
This is a non-FAR procurement under SLAC's DOE management and operating contract, though certain federal laws and executive orders may apply as required by statute or contract terms. SLAC requires a U.S. domestic end item source. Place of performance is Menlo Park, California.
The undulator must achieve an effective deflection parameter (K_max_eff) of 2.20 or greater and fit within a longitudinal envelope of 3,798.3 ± 2.0 mm. SLAC accepts two magnetic design alternatives: a 22mm period design with up to 150 full-strength periods (K_max_eff = 2.20) or a 23mm period design with up to 144 full-strength periods (K_max_eff = 2.225). Delivery is requested at 18 months After Receipt of Order to support installation during the August 2028 accelerator shutdown, but SLAC will consider proposals up to 19 months ARO. Cu-Ni foil must have a minimum width of 65mm.
Evaluation weighs technical factors (past performance with in-vacuum undulators, magnetic design and quality control, mechanical and vacuum system designs, schedule feasibility, financial standing) more heavily than price. SLAC reserves the right to award without discussions. Offerors must be registered in SAM.gov, comply with E-Verify requirements, and provide firm fixed pricing. Foreign suppliers performing work outside the United States are exempt from Small Business Subcontracting Plan requirements. NAICS code is 333248; PSC is 5999. Ryan Enos (ryane@slac.stanford.edu) is the point of contact.
