EMS is a tool that helps us look at our activities in a more organized way
EMS helps us control the environmental impacts of our day-to-day activities
EMS helps us comply with current environmental requirements and manage future issues
EMS helps us identify areas for continual improvement based on the standards of ISO 14001
EMS helps us improve our environmental performance

2. How is WSMR’s Environmental
Policy implemented?
The Policy is implemented through the EMS and Unit Environmental
Officers
You implement the policy through your daily business practices
3. How can you help implement the
Environmental Policy at WSMR?
Immediately clean up oil spills with absorbent
Shake “empty” toner cartridges and put them back in for longer use before replacing, then recycle cartridges
Avoid idling vehicles or running equipment needlessly
Turn off lights and equipment when not in use and at night
Purchase recyclable products made with recycled materials
Reuse products as appropriate
Recycle what you can
4. How do you manage and/or control your impact on the environment?
Follow procedures, i.e. Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintenance requirements, etc.
5. Where do you find SOPs and other procedures?
Check with your supervisor
Check next to equipment
Check on Bulletin boards
Check in office/shop files or library
6. What happens when you follow the procedures?
The job gets done in a timely manner
You only have to do the work once
You minimize impacts to the environment
