PATEC Core Specification Document Rev 5

15 June 09

This document lists the manufacturer’s specifications for the latest test equipment which makes up the Portable Automatic Test Equipment Calibrator (PATEC). It may be used as a template for Section 2, Equipment Requirements (often referred to as Table 2) of a Calibration Technical Order. The header for the table has a column titled Minimum Use Specifications. For use in a calibration procedure, these are specifications of the standards that are required to checkout the test station. In this document, the full manufacturer’s specifications are shown which may be much tighter than what is required for a given station. Therefore, this document can be modified and tailored for each test station. Specifications that are not required can be deleted and those that are too restrictive may be loosened. They may not be made more restrictive.

NOTE

This document contains the minimum use specifications for the 5700A/NAF Meter Calibrator for calibrations performed within ±5°C of the temperature as annotated on the Certification/Limited Certification Label. For any calibrations outside of ±5°C of these temperatures refer to the 5700 temperature coefficients in APPENDIX xz of the AFMETCAL T.O. Guide. Contact 562CBSG/GBNA, patec@afmetcal.af.mil for more information.

*1 The accuracy is the manufacturers calculated specification after six months. The accuracy specification is found by multiplying the longest term aging rate by the appropriate time interval to obtain six months. If the aging rate has a per year aging rate, that value has been used as the limits.

*2 The Frequency Counter accuracy is based upon a 1 Hz resolution. With an input frequency below

10.1 MHz, the TI will display a resolution of 0.1 Hz.

*3 Using recorder Output. Using front-panel display add 1 count of LSD to accuracy.

*1 Calibration accuracy depends on how accurately the TI Timebase was adjusted to nominal. Calibration accuracy = Acheivable Initial Calibration Accuracy.

*2 Accuracy at the beginning of the calibration cycle.

*3 Warranted performance is only the sum of all errors under autocoupled conditions.

2.1.5 MEASURING Agilent

RECEIVER N5530SE26

SYSTEM (Cont.)

*4 Horizontal resolution is due to the marker reading out one of the trace points. The points are spaced by span/(Npts-1), where Npts is the number of sweep points. For example, with the factory preset value of 601 sweep points, the horizontal resolution is span/600, with an exception. The exception is that when both the detector mode is normal and spans >0.25 X (Npts-1) X RBW, peaks can occur only in even numbered points, so the effective horizontal resolution becomes doubled, or span/300 in factory preset case. When the RBW is autocoupled and there are 601 sweep points, this exception occurs only for spans >450 MHz.

*5 Instrument conditions: RBW = 1 kHz, gate time = auto (100 ms), S/N 50 dB, Frequency = 1 GHz.

*6 RBW switching is specified and tested in the reference condition: -25 dBm signal input and 10 dB attenuation. At higher input levels, changing RBW may cause a larger change in result than specified, because the Display Scale Fidelity can be slightly different for different RBWs. These RBW differences in scale fidelity are nominally within 0.01 dB in all RBWs even for signals as large as -10 dBm at the input mixer.

*7 Offsets at 30 kHz measured with phase noise optimization set to Optimize L (f) for f <50 kHz. For offsets of 100 kHz the optimization is set for f >50 kHz.

*8 See step 3.9.

*9 Displayed Average Noise Level (DANL) is tested at 1 kHz RBW and normalized to the narrowest RBW (1 Hz RBW). Because 1) The narrowest RBWs of 1.0 to 1.8 Hz are not useful at levels <-110 dBm and

2) DANL is measured with 10 dB of input attenuation and normalized to 0 dB input attenuation to be congruent with the TOI allowing accurate dynamic range estimation for the TI.

*10 Specifications for frequencies >3 GHz apply for sweep rates <100 MHz/ms.

*11 This specification is the total for all amplitude measurement errors and applies over the following subset of settings and conditions: 10 Hz RBW 1 MHz; Input signal -50 to -10 dBm; Input Attenuation 10 dB; Span <5 MHz (nominal additional error for Span 5 MHz is 0.02 dB); all settings autocoupled except Auto Swp Time = Accy; combinations of low signal level and wide RBW use VBW 30 kHz to reduce noise. This specification includes the sum of the following individual specifications under the aforementioned conditions: Scale Fidelity, Reference Level Accuracy, Display Scale Switching Uncertainty, Resolution Bandwidth Switching Uncertainty, 50 MHz Amplitude Reference Accuracy and the accuracy with which the TI aligns the internal gains to the 50 MHz Amplitude Reference.

*12 Due to the Digital Amplifier instead of a traditional Logarithmic Amplifier, Reference Level becomes a function of a display as opposed to a measurement function. This allows the TI to make marker measurements accurately that are off, either above or below the TI screen. The only exception to the independence of the Reference Level and the way in which the measurement is performed is in the input attenuator setting: When the input attenuator is set to auto, the rules for the determination of the input attenuation include dependence on the Reference Level. Because the input attenuation setting controls the tradeoff between large signal behaviors (TOI, compression, display scale fidelity and noise), the measurement results can change with Reference Level changes when the input attenuation is set to auto.

*13 Affects only the display, not the measurement, it causes no additional error in measurement results from trace data or markers.

*14 With a digital IF, the Range and Accuracy are independent of each other, the Range is N/A (the Accuracy is still the same even if an external mixer is used above the range of the TI).

*15 Display Scale Fidelity and RBW switching uncertainty interact slightly. See Footnote *6. RBW switching applies at only one level on the scale fidelity curve, but scale fidelity applies for all RBWs.

*16 Scale Fidelity is warranted with ADC dither turned on. Turning on ADC dither nominally increases the DANL. The nominal increase is highest with the preamp off in the lowest DANL frequency range under 1.2 GHz, where the nominal increase is 2.5 dB. Other ranges and the preamp-on case will show lower increases in DANL. Turning off ADC dither nominally degrades low level (signals below -60 dBm at the mixer input) scale fidelity by 0.2 dB.

*17 Mixer level = Input level - Input Attenuator.

*18 Distortion is computed from TOI.

*19 TOI is given by the mixer tone level (in dBm) - (distortion/2) where distortion is the relative level of the distortion tones in dBc.

*20 SHI (Second Harmonic Intercept) is given by the mixer power in dBm - the second harmonic distortion evel relative to the mixer tone in dBc.
