SF30 Block 14 Continued…
E. The following questions and answers are incorporated into the solicitation:
1. Borrow areas – Only one borrow area is shown on the drawings, in Unit 3.
1. Question – How deep can the borrow area be?
Answer – Depths, 18” to 24”, maximum. All area should be shaped after construction so there are no vertical slopes.
1. Question – Can other borrow area be used?
Answer – Yes, it needs to be at least 50’ away from the embankment, same depths as above. The COR must approve the site, the soil moisture condition will weigh-in on the location’s approval.
1. On all Water Control Structure Drawings (4). There is a standard note saying “Trim Stoplog Guide to Principal Spillway Elevation after Installation”. The instructions in this note will not be performed by the contractor. The removal of the guide can weaken the structure.
1. Question – The site is still holding some water. What about the existing water?
Answer - The FO staff will work with the landowner to lower the water level by remove the stoplogs in the existing Water Control Structure, as soon as they can. Because of the location and previous construction methods, there may still be some water in some of the deeper holes which could affect construction. The contractor will need to take the possibly of wet conditions into consideration when making their bid.
