Additional Comments:
Water Softener Room
1. Heavy efflorescence, delamination, and signs of corrosion were observed in the masonry walls surrounding the room. The most extensive damage was observed near the bases of the walls. Damage was observed on both sides of the walls all around the room. The heaviest deposits of salts are found along the joint lines. Refer to Figure 1 and 2.
Figure 1. Salt Deposits.
Figure 2. Delamination of CMU Face Shell.
Pierce Engineering 3
2. The tops of the southern, eastern, and western walls surrounding the room were observed from an opening in the ceiling. The walls do not extend to the floor framing above and do not appear to be load-bearing. The northern wall appears to bypass a concrete beam, but how or if there is a connection could not be verified.
3. The eastern wall has separated from the northern wall or the joint filler has deteriorated.
4. Miscellaneous cracking of the walls was observed around the perimeter of the room. Refer to Figure 3.
Figure 3. Random Cracking.
5. The metal door frames are heavily corroded near the bottoms.
6. The upper surface of the floor slab has delaminated throughout the water softener room.
