About this file
This is a Structures Calculations Book for the 16th Street NE Bridge, prepared for Collier County Transportation Management Services Department by Kisinger Campo & Associates, Corp. The document contains comprehensive structural design calculations for a bridge crossing the Golden Gate Main Canal, including detailed geometry, superstructure design, substructure design, and foundation analysis. The bridge features three spans with horizontal and vertical alignment adjustments, utilizing Florida Slab Beams (FSBs) in varying sizes to accommodate bridge width requirements.
The superstructure design includes FSB 15x60 interior and exterior beams, along with FSB 15x57 exterior beams, with a 6-inch composite deck including sacrificial thickness and 2% cross-slope. The design incorporates 23 prestressing strands per beam with carbon steel low relaxation properties, bearing pads measuring 48 inches wide, and 4K stirrup reinforcement with variable spacing. Substructure elements consist of four bents with pile foundations, wingwall lengths of 7.5 feet, and design specifications for end bent and intermediate bent cap elevations. The vertical clearance requirement of 2 feet 3.5 inches above Design High Water Elevation of 12.64 feet addresses the Golden Gate Main Canal crossing with a South Florida Water Management District waiver, as the standard 4-foot clearance could not be accommodated due to profile constraints. Material properties specify 4.5 ksi deck concrete strength, 8.5 ksi beam concrete strength at 28 days, and 6.8 ksi release strength, with all designs meeting FDOT LRFD criteria and service limit state stress requirements.

SUMMARY OF SECTION
The Low Member Elevation (LME)of the bridge is calculated in accordance with SDG Figure 1.1.3-1. LME is compared to the Design High Water Elevation (DHW) to ensure compliance with vertical clearance criteria.
FDM 260.8.1 gives vertical clearance criteria for bridges over waterways. For non-navigable waterways, a minimum of two feet vertical clearance from the design flood stage to the LME of the bridge is required to allow debris to pass under the bridge in a storm event.
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Right of Way Criteria Manual imposes additional requirements for bridges over their waterways. The 16th Street NE Bridge crosses over the Golden Gate
Main Canal, which is part of the Big Cypress Basin. For this waterway, SFWMD calls for a vertical clearance of four feet above DHW.
Due to profile constraints, a waiver is required for the vertical clearance criteria which will allow for the bridge to be built with a two-foot clearance between the LME and DHW.

SUMMARY OF SECTION
Three beam designs consider the two different Florida Slab Beam (FSB) sizes necessary to accommodate the bridge width with interior and exterior distribution factors. Beam designs apply to all three spans due to matching span length and build-up geometry. All beam designs are in accordance with FDOT Standard
Plans Index 450-451.
Included in this section:
FSB 15x60, Interior
FSB 15x60, Exterior
FSB 15x57, Exterior
The bridge has a 6 ½” -inch deck, including a ½” sacrificial thickness, and a 2% cross-slope on both sides of the centerline. Design of these beams has been completed utilizing the FDOT LRFD Prestressed Beam
Program and AASHTO approximate distribution factors. All loads are generated within the program.
Composite loads on the bridge include the weight of a 32” Vertical Shape Traffic Railing with
Pedestrian/Bicycle Bullet Railing, a 6’-0” raised sidewalk, and a 36” Single-Slope Traffic Railing. The total composite load of these components is applied as a single barrier load in the program.

Beam Strand Pattern The same strand patterns was used for all beams.
Strand Pattern:
Beam Stirrup Spacing:
The shear reinforcement considered for design was utilizing only the 4k stirrups. The number of spaces and spacing for A1, A2, A3, S1, S2, S3 shall be taken as S1, and the calculated number of spaces and spacing for S4 shall be taken as S2. The plans will show a more conservative spacing schedule to satisfy FDOT
Standard Index 450-450.
