1.10.1 Building System Warranty

Furnish manufacturer's no-dollar-limit warranty for the metal building system. The warranty period is to be no less than 20 years from the date of acceptance of the work and be issued directly to the Government. The warranty must provide that if within the warranty period, the metal building system shows evidence of deterioration resulting from defective materials and/or workmanship, correcting of any defects is the responsibility of the metal building system manufacturer. Repairs that become necessary because of defective materials and workmanship while metal building system is under warranty are to be performed within 32hours after notification, unless additional time is approved by the Contracting Officer. Failure to perform repairs within 32 hours of notification will constitute grounds for having emergency repairs performed by others and will not void the warranty.

There is only ONE maybe TWO manufacturers that offer this. This spec eliminates 99% of all MBNA Buildings.

Can this be removed. Otherwise we and many others cannot bid. AND the one that does offer it; it is not a NDL Warranty really.

Government Response

The specification will be amended to state a 5 year warranty instead of a 20 year warranty. Specification will be provided in Amendment 0009.

ID 9151924

SECTION 13 34 19 METAL BUILDING SYSTEMS

Is there a certain supplier the Owner is requesting we use, as many of the items are not standard.

Specs are calling for the PEMB manufacturer to be a member of the MBMA.

Specs are calling for a 20-year building system warranty. Most standard warranties are 3-years.

Specs call for red-oxide primer. Most suppliers use gray primer on primary framing with galvanized secondaries.

Spec 13 34 19, section 2.8.2 on page #22, Dwg pg A-312, Wall Section 1 It is Not advisable to have Two Air/Vapor Barrier liners as shown. The 5/8" glass mat shown between the purlin and roof clip is not constructible. The industry standard "Skyliner" type system is similar as shown and recognized by the PEMB industry to provide both the Air & Vapor Barriers required. Is a Skyliner type system acceptable? We have no way of installing and working on the roof with a 5/8" sheathing covering the purlins. It will not support itself, the top layer of insulation will get compressed and it's dangerous. I will exclude this detail regardless.

Government Response Products and/or systems must be approved; however, air barrier must be a continuous transition from exterior walls to roof structure. A product is determined to be acceptable as long is it needs the criteria outlined within the Specifications.
