Windows are not required to be designed or constructed for blast resistance.
Glazing must meet the following requirements:
Provide no less than ¼" laminated glass. The 1/4 in.
(6 mm) laminated glass consists of two nominal 1/8 in.
(3 mm) glass panes bonded together with a minimum of a 0.030 in.
(0.75 mm) interlayer of a material \1\ that has typically been used in blast resistant window applications. For insulated glass units (IGU), use the polycarbonate or laminated glass for the innermost pane as a minimum. For laminated glass, the laminated pane shall be adhered to its supporting frame using structural silicone sealant or adhesive glazing tape. The structural silicone sealant bite shall be equal to the larger of 3/8-in. (10-mm) or the thickness of the laminated glass to which it adheres. The minimum thickness of the structural silicone bead shall be 3/16-in. (5-mm). The glazing tape bite shall be equal to two times the thickness of the laminated glass to which it adheres. The structural silicone bead or glazing tape shall be applied to both sides of single pane laminated glass but need only be applied to the inboard (protected) side of an IGU.

1.2 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
1.2.1 Structural Performance
Provide metal building systems capable of withstanding the effects of gravity loads and the following loads and stresses within the limits and conditions indicated.
1.2.1.1 Engineering
Design metal building systems conforming to procedures described in
MBMA MBSM.
1.2.1.2 Design Loads
Conform to the requirements of MBMA MBSM, ASCE 7, and the building code applicable to the project geographical location.
1.2.1.3 Live Loads
Include all vertical loads induced by the building occupancy indicated on the drawings, as well as loads induced by maintenance workers, materials and equipment for roof live loads.
1.2.1.4 Roof Snow Loads
Include vertical loads induced by the ground snow load at the project site of 25 psf. Allow for unbalanced and drift loads. See contract drawings for additional snow load criteria.
1.2.1.5 Wind Loads
Include horizontal and vertical loads induced by a basic wind speed Project site of 115 mph. See contract drawings for additional wind load criteria.
1.2.1.6 Collateral Loads
Include additional dead loads other than the weight of metal building system for permanent items such as sprinklers, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and ceilings.
1.2.1.7 Load Combinations
Design metal building systems to withstand the most critical effects of load factors and load combinations as required by MBMA MBSM, ASCE 7, and the building code applicable to the project location.
1.2.1.8 Deflection Limits
Engineer assemblies to withstand design loads with deflections no greater than the following:
a. Purlins and Rafters; vertical deflection of 1/240 of the span.
b. Girts or supplemental horizontal hot rolled sections; horizontal deflection of 1/600 of the span where they support brick veneer or support cold formed steel (CFS) backing brick veneer, per Table 2-1 of
UFC 3-301-01.
SECTION 13 34 19 Page 6
c. Metal Roof Panels; vertical deflection of 1/240 of the span.
d. Metal Wall Panels; horizontal deflection of 1/240 of the span but shall not impair the brick veneer.
Design secondary framing system to accommodate deflection of primary building structure and construction tolerances, and to maintain clearances at openings. Provide metal panel assemblies capable of withstanding the effects of loads and stresses indicated, based on testing according to
ASTM E1592.
1.2.2 Seismic Performance
Design and engineer metal building system capable of withstanding the effects of earthquake motions determined according to ASCE 7, AISC 341, and the applicable portions of the building code in the geographic area where the construction will take place.
1.2.3 Thermal Movements
Provide metal panel systems that allow for thermal movements resulting from the following maximum change (range) in ambient and surface temperatures by preventing buckling, opening of joints, overstressing of components, failure of joint sealants, failure of connections, and other detrimental effects. Base engineering calculation on surface temperatures of materials due to both solar heat gain and nighttime-sky heat loss as follows:
