1.3 Principles of Operation

Each FREDI2 contains a 915 MHz radio that is used to broadcast position and status messages. The FREDI2 also has a GPS Tracker that communicates with satellites to triangulate the position of the FREDI2. Once the FREDI2 locates itself utilizing the GPS tracking, the information is then relayed through a series of towers making its way back to the NOC. Once the information is received there, the data is recorded and stored where it is encoded and represented on 3D and 2D virtual maps of the terrain in real time. The operational status is indicated by three letters, CIT.

10/20/2017

• Comms - The transmission of position and MILES data to the base station. The FREDI2 is programmed to relay data on 1 of 4 networks. These NETs are 8, 9, 10, and 11. Each NET can be represented by their designated color. The figure 1.3 demonstrates the NET colors. The FREDI2’s NET is represented by a colored screw at the top of the FREDI2.

• Initialized - The FREDI2 has been recognized by the base station by its serial number and its assigned descriptions.

• Tracking - The GPS is functioning properly and the position data has reached the Base Station.

Figure 6 - FREDI2 Nets and Color Representation

2. Operating Instructions

2.1 Description and Use of Operator’s Controls and Indicators

The FREDI2 has a master on/off switch and a LED indicator light. Once the operator has pressed the on/off switch the indicator light will blink red until the FREDI2 has passed a BIT test. Once the BIT test is passed, the LED will continue to slowly blink, indicating the FREDI2 is on. If the LED is blinking green the FREDI2 is tracking. If the LED is blinking amber the FREDI2 is not tracking. If the LED light does not come on the FREDI2 is not receiving power and is not on. The figure below summarizes what the LED light indicates.

The colored screw specifies the NET that the FREDI2 is relaying data on.
