About this file
The document is a technical specification sheet for UPM® Liquid Asphalt Blend produced by UNIQUE Paving Materials Corp., located in Cleveland, Ohio. This specification details the technical requirements and performance characteristics of a liquid asphalt blend specifically designed for permanent pavement repair material mix, with no direct evidence of a specific state or local government contract attached to this document.
The specification outlines a liquid asphalt blend that offers a wide ambient temperature workability range from -15°F to 100°F, designed to provide excellent coating, workability, and adhesion characteristics for pavement repair. The product meets detailed technical specifications including viscosity ranges, flash point, water percentage, and distillation parameters as tested by ASTM standard methods. The specification guarantees that stockpiles of UPM cold mix of 100 tons or more will maintain performance features for at least 12 months, with UNIQUE Paving Materials Corp. determining the appropriate grade based on region, season, and approved aggregate. The technical details include precise measurements for kinematic viscosity, penetration, ductility, and solubility to ensure consistent quality and performance of the liquid asphalt blend.

GENERAL:
This specification governs the UPM® liquid asphalt blend utilized in the production of UPM permanent pavement repair material mix. The UPM liquid asphalt blend shall not strip from the approved aggregate and shall be available in various seasonal grades, which yield a total ambient temperature workability range of - 15°F (-26°C) to 100°F (38°C). The UPM liquid asphalt blend will impart to the aggregate qualities, which will allow the UPM mix to be effective and suitable for wet or dry weather conditions. The UPM liquid blend will give the patching mixture excellent coating, workability and adhesion characteristics. The resulting stockpiles of UPM cold mix of 100 tons or more must maintain all performance features for at least 12 months. See the UPM mix High-Performance Guarantee. UNIQUE Paving Materials Corp. (UNIQUE) will determine the appropriate grade of UPM liquid asphalt blend based on the region, season and approved aggregate.

Note 1 Make this test in accordance with ASTM Method D 5, except utilize a penetration cone in place of the standard penetration needle. The cone shall conform to the requirements given in ASTM Method D 217, except that the interior construction may be modified as one desires. The total moving weight of the cone and attachments must be 150.0 plus or minus 0.1 grams. Also, the level of the water in the transfer dish shall be lowered to less than the height of the sample cup and decant any water from the surface of the sample before transferring from the constant temperature bath to the penetrometer.
