FAR (48 CFR) 53.110

1. The specification calls for service weight pipe and fittings with gaskets above the ground.

Can cast iron, no hub pipe and fittings be used on the waste & vent AFF. It's been the industry standard for 35 years?

Yes, cast iron no-hub pipe and fittings can be used on the waste and vent pipe above finished floor. All sanitary and vent piping below finished floor should remain cast iron hub-and-spigot.

2. Drawing PO.I general note #9 what does this mean?

The following note is required by NPS for any exterior site work that involves ground disturbing activities: “Prior to construction, the Contractor shall provide survey, monitoring, exposure and anomaly avoidance services for Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) in conjunction with planned ground disturbing activities in the SAHO Building 102 project area.” The building is located on the site of a former active fort and thus survey precautions are stipulated for the avoidance of any possible MEC during ground disturbing activities. This note is relevant to work including, but not limited to, the exterior site work required for the LP UST and piping.

3. Is the underground storage tank UST supplied and installed by the plumber?

The UST shall be installed by qualified persons in accordance with all State and Federal requirements.

4. Is a State of New Jersey DPMC classification required for this project?

Contractor shall comply with all relevant State and Federal Requirements.

5. Is the removal of all pressed tin ceilings required or does it only pertain to Bid Additive Item F?

Refer to the demolition RCP drawings on A1.3, A1.4, and A1.5 and the associated keynotes. These drawings show there are areas of pressed tin ceiling removal and salvage. Unless an item is designated as an “Option”, it is base contract work.

6. Sheet A1.2 Keyed Note 02-71 refers to Bid Option I. The note is referring to salvaging plumbing fixtures. Bid Option I is referring to doors. Please clarify.

Reference to Bid Option I is incorrect. Disregard.

7. Sheet A1.3 General Note 6. If structural deficiencies are found will a modification to the contract be awarded for additional work?

The contractor is required to complete all work included in the contract documents.

Any unforeseen site conditions will be handled in accordance with the appropriate contract clauses.

8. Sheets A 1.3 – A 1.5 Keyed Note 02-64 and Section 02 83 13 Table 1. Per the Keyed Note we are to salvage the historic tin ceiling tiles for reinstallation. Per Table 1 they are contaminated with lead paint. Typically items removed for lead abatement are discarded off-site. Bid Option F calls for reinstallation of the tin ceiling tiles. These would have to have the lead paint removed carefully to not damage the tiles. Should the base bid treat the tiles as being disposed off-site and Option F to carefully remove the lead from the tiles for reinstallation?

Refer to definitions in specification section 01 3591 “Historic Preservation Treatment Procedures”. Remove and Salvage is defined as “To detach items from existing construction and deliver them to the NPS ready for reuse.” Careful removal of lead paint is required as base contract work as it is required to make the tiles “ready for reuse”.

9. A2.0, A7.1, S2 & S9. Concrete ramp. Is any preparation of or doweling into the existing concrete slab required?

Doweling is not required. ½” compressible filler against existing masonry wall is shown on S9.

10. S2. What is the spacing for the new concrete footing in the East Wing?

New footings are to be located at the same locations as the existing footings to be removed.

11. S9 detail 2 indicates stair nosing and refers to the architectural drawings. The architectural drawings do not indicate stair nosing nor is there a specification for stair nosing. Please clarify.

Stair nosing note on S9 will be removed.

12. S5 detail 4. How does the lentil terminate and bear on the ends?

Lintel terminates and bears 6” at each end.

13. S5 detail 5. Where does this occur?

At masonry wall openings up to 4’-0” wide (lintels are not required for openings 16 inches or less).

14. S6 detail 4. Where does this occur?

See drawing S3 where W8x28 is shown in plan.

15. A7.1 All the details include Keyed Note 05-06. The Keyed Note says it is not used.

Please clarify.

Revise Keyed Note 05-06 to read “Provide metal tube handrail – paint.”

16. S2 has a notation on the East Wing calling for pipe columns, see S6. S6 shows the base detail. Where is the cap detail?

See drawing S3 where W8x28 is shown in plan.

17. A7.1 Keynote 04-41 does not have a description. Please provide.

Delete keynote 04-41 from detail 1 on drawing A7.8
