About this file

This document is an Addendum to the Final Hydraulics Report for the ND NP THRO 204(1) Buck Hill Road project, dated March 2025, issued by the Federal Highway Administration (CFLHD).

The addendum updates the inlet recommendation (Identifier PR05) for the Buck Hill Parking Lot reconstruction. The analysis determines that an NDDOT Inlet Type 2 – Double with a 6-foot grate length is adequate for collecting parking lot runoff. The design basis was revised from a 50-year design storm to a 10-year design storm, in accordance with FLH PDDM Section 7.3.3.2.1 guidelines for parking areas. The clogging factor assumption was also revised; while initially set at 50% per PDDM guidance for grate inlets, the curb-grate combination inlet type does not require an assumed clogging factor unless documented problems exist. The analysis presents results for both 0% and 50% clogging factors across both 10-year and 50-year design storm scenarios. For the 10-year storm, peak flow is 5.9 cfs with flow depths of 0.34 inches (0% clogging) and 0.54 inches (50% clogging). For the 50-year storm, peak flow is 7.5 cfs with flow depths of 0.39 inches (0% clogging) and 0.63 inches (50% clogging). Inlet details are specified on Sheet T7 of the project plans with the double casting option. Four detailed curb and gutter analysis figures are provided showing computational results for each design scenario.

Summary

The purpose of this addendum is to update the proposed inlet recommendation (Identifier PR05) for the Buck Hill Parking Lot reconstruction. Further hydraulic analysis of the site has determined that an NDDOT Inlet Type 2 – Double, with an approximate grate length of 6 feet, is adequate to collect runoff from the parking lot. Initially, this inlet was sized to handle runoff from a 50-year design storm. However, per FLH PDDM Section 7.3.3.2.1, parking areas can be designed for a 10-year design storm. Additionally, the clogging factor was originally set at 50% based on PDDM 7.3.3.3.3 guidance for grate inlets. Since the proposed inlet is a combination curb-grate type a clogging factor is not assumed unless it is a documented problem. For this revision, both 0% and 50% clogging factors are considered, as outlined below.

The inlet details are shown on Sheet T7 of the plans and specify the use of the double casting option.

Table 1 below provides the updated recommendations, including results for both the 10-year and 50-year design storms.
