MMHS Shaw AFB Question Set 2

Q1. How far apart are the buildings?

A1. Buildings 216 and 1518 are approximately 1.5 miles apart and buildings 1518 and 1604 are approximately .5 miles apart. The map for the answer to Question 2 provides an overhead view of the base.

Q2. Is a map available?

Q3. Are any of the buildings on a flight line that require special access and/or escorts?

A3. None of the buildings are on the flight line that require special access.

Q4. For the security fencing is there a preference for which way the gate slides?

A4. There is no preference on the direction of the sliding gate.

Q5. For the rolling ladders, is a locking safety step required or locking casters?

A5. Either a locking safety step or locking caster is acceptable as long as the ladder has a way to prevent movement when personnel are on it.

Q6. For removal of the mobile aisles, can you confirm they are all manual mobiles and none are electronic and that there are no lights attached to them to be removed?

A6. All of the mobile aisle to be removed are manual and do not have lighting attached.

Q7. For the removable of the mezzanine it is assumed the sprinkler system will need to be capped and removed underneath and that the removal of the incline/decline conveyor will require an electrician to disconnect power and tie off, correct?

A7. Correct, the sprinkler system will need to be removed and capped and an electrician is assumed to be needed to safely disconnect the electrical components of the mezzanine.

Q8. For the removal of the VLMs, please confirm there is no fire suppression inside it that requires being tied off.

A8. There is no fire suppression within the VLMs that will need to be removed.

Appendix A - Pallet Rack

Q9. The spec calls for 6” and 12” row spacers but does not specify which size goes with which type. It is assumed 12” row spacers are required for the pallet rack with columns going through it?

A9. Yes, this assumption is correct.

Appendix B – Widespan

Q10. For the G1 wide span housing the tire supports only 1,100 lb capacity was requested. Usually, 6,000 lbs is requested for bays requiring tire supports. Is this correct?

A10. 1,100 pounds is correct for this project.

Appendix D – Mobile Aisle

Q11. Do you want ramps on the 3 sides not against the wall, or just the end with the carriage fronts?

A11. Ramps shall be provided on the two open ends of the mobile aisle system with the crank mechanism. The other two sides shall be against a wall and fence and do not require ramps.

Appendix E – Modular Cabinets and Mini Mezzanines

Q12. The spec does not ask for locks for any of the cabinets. Is this correct?

A12. Locks shall be provided for modular cabinets. Appendix E has been updated to reflect this.

Q13. The CPD gives instructions on what is to be dismantled but does not say anything about disposal.

Are we to dispose of it?

A13. Yes, the equipment to be removed shall be disposed of by the contractor as well.

Q14. There are no instructions about removal of the sprinkler system are we to cut and cap off or leave it in place for rework?

A14. The sprinkler system shall be cut and capped.
