BPEE Questions and Answers

Q. "Subject: Rollup Door. We can provide personnel doors because one can step up and over the bottom beam structure. An overhead door will require that the bottom beam structure be interrupted. This will negatively effect the structural integrity of the steel framing. While I can't say that it is impossible, it is certainly not recommended. Please consider deleting this requirement."

A. We can remove the requirement for the overhead rollup door. The User still requires a personnel door stepping over the beam.

(All interested parties can consider the requirement for the overhead rollup door deleted).

Q. "Subject: Connections. We will try to come up with a design that does not require connecting and disconnecting the fire protection system. But given the size, it is going to be difficult. Section 4.1.1.16 states that the connecting and disconnecting shall be performed without tools. I don't know of a NFPA approved quick-connect. Four bolts are required to be installed and un-installed. This will require a ratchet or box-end wrench."

A. We will accept a four bolt flange connection on the fire protection system.

With the fire connections referenced above we should add in the clarifications that all connections are at ground level.
