Q1: Under the Wood Products, pg 2, line #19 & #24: it specifies hardwood particle board to have a core material of wheat board and the shelving to be wheat particle board clad with white melamine. I have been informed by all of my sheet goods suppliers that wheat board particle board is not available. A company named Kirei used to produce this item and if you go to their website they have a note saying this "product discontinued and no longer available". I have no problem suppling particle board core (not wheat board core) that is LEED/FSC/NAUF to meet your requirements for this project. Please confirm this is an acceptable alternative.
A1: Does not have to be wheat board core material for cabinetry or shelving. Composite wood and agrifiber products, including core materials, must contain no added urea-formaldehyde resins and shall meet the low-emitting materials requirements of LEED Credit IEQ 4.4. Laminate adhesives used to fabricate on-site and shop-applied assemblies containing these laminate adhesives must contain no added urea formaldehyde. See spec 06 40 00 revised 9 Sep 16.
Q2: Under Casework Fabrication item #2: it specifies hardwood particle board to be used on all semi-exposed cabinet bodies and shelves, yet under Cabinets, it specifies cabinet interiors, drawer interiors, and casework shelving to be clad with melamine. Please confirm white melamine interiors is acceptable on this project.
A2: Per Spec page 06 40 00-3, lines 59-2, cabinet interiors shall generally receive melamine.
There may be some cases (at finished end cabinets) where the interior may match exterior if particle board with bamboo on one side and melamine on the other side is not available.
Q3: Under Casework Fabrication item #5: it specifies drawers to be hardwood or plywood, assembled with machine lock-shoulder joints and two coats of sealer. If white melamine interiors are acceptable(question #2), can the drawers be assembled with dowel and glue joints as specified for the other cabinet parts?
A3: Drawer construction of white melamine interiors with doweled and glued joints is acceptable. Particle board core materials must be as outlined in Item 1 above. See spec 06 40 00 revised 9 Sep 16.
Q4: Under Closet Shelving, pg 4, line #13: No material is specified. Is LEED/FSC/NAUF white melamine with particle board core acceptable?
A4: Closet shelving of particle board core with white melamine covering is acceptable. Particle board core materials must be as outlined in Item 1 above.
Q5: Under Cabinets, pg 3, line #45: It states that "wall and base cabinets, medicine cabinets, and vanity cabinets shall be of the same construction and appearance." The medicine cabinets are specified by Section 102813, please confirm that is correct.
A5: The words "medicine cabinets" are deleted from Spec Section 06 40 00, as medicine cabinets are specified in Section 10 28 13. See spec 06 40 00 revised 9 Sep 16.
Q6: Panels 1LH and 2LH are 28k rated on the schedules, can we rate them at 22k in order to get the GFI breakers you are requesting?
A6: Yes, we can rate those panels at 22K. Our Engineer checked the fault calculations and 22K rating will work for those two panels.
Q7: Will the air monitoring be done by the Owner's Representative or is the asbestos abatement contractor responsible for any clearance monitoring?
A7: The contractor is responsible for all testing and monitoring.
Q8: Traditionally, a building permit with the city is NOT required because the base is considered "federal" property. I assume this is also true at the GF AFB. Please confirm my assumptions are correct.
A8: A permit with the city is not required. Permits, notifications, and requirements are identified in spec section 01000.
Q9: Sheet A-205, Elevations "C", "D", "G", "R", and "S". At the wood closet shelving, are wood wall cleats required to support the shelving? Same material as the wood shelving?
Please advise.
A9: Per spec 06 40 00, "Support shelves by cleats at back and ends." Cleats are exposed surfaces and shall match hardwood particle board shelving construction.
Q10: Are there any existing as-built/record drawings illustrating the structural and are they available? Need these to calculate hole cutting and patching.
A10: Structural as-builts are attached. Dorm 222 is one of several built from the same set of drawings; therefore, the final construction and orientation of this dorm may not exactly match that of the drawings. Due to the age of the drawings and the facility, the government does not guarantee the accuracy of the drawings.
Q11: At the mop basin locations, is there a requirement to install fiberglass reinforced plastic panels 4' high to protect the adjacent walls? Please advise.
A11: No.
