The work 10 consists of setting speed and volume (flow) adjusting facilities provided for systems, recording data, conducting 11 tests, preparing and submitting reports, and recommending modifications to work as required by Contract 12 Documents. 13 Component types of testing, adjusting and balancing specified in this section includes the following as applied to 15 mechanical equipment: 16

- Air Distribution Systems 17

- Energy Recovery Ventilation units. 18

- Air-conditioning units. 19

- Fans. 20

- Ductwork systems. 21

- Diffuser, registers and grilles. 22

- Coils. 23

- Hydronic Systems 24

- Boilers. 25

- Pumps. 26

- Coils. 27

- Hydronic zones. 28

- Piping systems. 29

QUALITY ASSURANCE 31

Tester's Qualifications: Firm certified by National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) in those testing and 33 balancing disciplines similar to those required for this Project and may also be the original Installer of system to 34 be tested. 35 Codes and Standards: 37

- NEBB Compliance: Comply with NEBB's "Procedural Standards for Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing of 38

Environmental Systems" as applicable to mechanical air hydronic distribution systems and associated 39 equipment and apparatus. 40

- Industry Standards: Comply with ASHRAE recommendations pertaining to measurements, instruments, 41 and testing, adjusting and balancing, except as otherwise indicated. 42

SUBMITTALS 44

Submit certified test reports signed by Test and Balance Supervisor who performed TAB work. In addition, have 46 report certified by Professional Engineer who is familiar with TAB work and also with Project, and who is 47 registered in jurisdiction where testing is being conducted. 48 Include identification and types of instruments used, and their most recent calibration date with submission of 50 final test report. 51 Submit biographical data on Engineer who is to directly supervise testing, adjusting and balancing work. 53 Maintenance Data: Include in maintenance manuals, copies of certified test reports, identification of instruments 55 and data on Engineer. 56

JOB CONDITIONS 2

Do not proceed with testing, adjusting, and balancing work until work has been completed and is operable. 4 Ensure that there is not latent residual work still to be completed. 5

Do not proceed until work scheduled for testing, adjusting, and balancing is clean and free from debris, dirt and 7 discarded building materials. 8

B. PRODUCTS 10

PATCHING MATERIALS 24

Except as otherwise indicated, use same products as used by original Installer for patching holes in insulation, 26 ductwork and housings which have been cut or drilled for test purposes, including access for test instruments, 27 attaching jigs and similar purposes. 28

- At Tester's option, plastic plugs with retainers may be used to patch drilled holes in ductwork and 29 housings. 30

TEST INSTRUMENTS 32

Utilize test instruments and equipment for TAB work required, of type, precision, and capacity as recommended 34 in the following TAB Standards: 35

- NEBB's Procedural Standards for Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing of Environmental Systems. 36

C. EXECUTION 38

EXAMINATION 40

Examine installed work and conditions under which testing is to be done to ensure that work has been 42 completed, cleaned and is operable. Do not proceed with TAB work until unsatisfactory conditions have been 43 corrected in a manner acceptable to Tester. 44

AIR SYSTEM TESTING, ADJUSTING AND BALANCING 46

Test, adjust and balance environmental systems and components, as indicated, in accordance with procedures 48 outlined in applicable standards, with the following minimum requirements. 49 Make the following test, adjustments and recordings: 51

- Test and adjust supply, return and exhaust fans. Adjust rotation and RPM to design requirements. 52

- Test and record terminal voltages after above adjustments. 53

- Test and record fan motor full load amperes after above adjustments. 54

- Make Pitot Tube Traverse at main supply, return and exhaust ducts. Obtain design CFM at fans. 55

- Test and adjust system static pressures; suction and discharge. 56

- Test and adjust each diffuser, grille, and register to within 10% of design requirements. Adjust to 1 minimize drafts in all areas. Readings and tests shall include required FPM velocity and test resultant 2 FPM velocity, required CFM and test resultant CFM after adjustments. 3

- Adjust automatically operated dampers to operate as specified, indicated, and/or noted. The testing 4 agency shall check controls for proper calibrations and list the controls requiring adjustments by Control 5 Installers. 6

- Change pulleys, belts, and dampers, or add dampers as required for correct balance, as recommended 7 by the Air Balancing Agency, at no additional cost to the Owner. 8

WATER SYSTEM TESTING, ADJUSTING AND BALANCING 10

Test, adjust and balance environmental systems and components, as indicated, in accordance with procedures 12 outlined in applicable standards, with the following minimum requirements. 13 Preliminary checks, settings and adjustments shall be as follows: 15

- Check pump rotation. 16

- Check expansion tanks to determine that they are not air bound and the system is completely full of 17 water. 18

- Check air vents at high points of water systems and determine that all are installed and operating freely. 19

Phase I - Water systems testing and balancing procedures shall be as follows: 21

- Set Heat Pump Loop water, hot water, and condenser water pumps to the proper gallon per minute 22 delivery. 23

- Proceed to balance each radiation zone and hot water coil. 24

- Mark settings on valves and record data upon the completion of flow readings and adjustments at coils. 25

Phase II - Water systems testing and balancing procedures shall be as follows: 27

- Recheck settings at the pumps and re-adjust, if required, after adjustments are made to each radiation 28 zone and coil. 29

- Check and record the following items at each cooling and heating element: 30

- Inlet water temperatures. 31

- Leaving water temperatures. 32

- Pressure drop of each coil. 33

- GPM at each pump, coil, and radiation zone. 34

- Pump operating suction and discharge pressure and final total dynamic head. 35

- List mechanical specifications of pumps. 36

- Rated and actual running amperage of pump motor. 37

- Check control valves for operation from full open to full closed. 38

SEASONAL CONSIDERATIONS 40

Test, adjust and balance system during summer season for air conditioning systems and during winter season for 42 heating systems, including at least period of operation at outside conditions within 5oF wet bulb temperature of 43 maximum summer design condition, and within 10oF dry bulb temperature of minimum winter design condition. 44 When seasonal operation does not permit measuring final temperatures, then take final temperature readings 45 when seasonal operation does permit. 46

CLOSEOUT PROCEDURES 48

Prepare report of test results, including instrumentation calibration reports, in format recommended by applicable 50 standards. 51 Patch holes in insulation, ductwork and housings, which have been cut or drilled for test purposes, in a manner 53 recommended by original Installer. 54
