720TH SPECIAL TACTICS GROUP
MISSION
The 720th Special Tactics Group (STG) is an integral part of the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) and is home-based at Hurlburt Field, Fla. The Group is comprised of more than 800 Special Tactics (ST) combat controllers (CCT), pararescuemen (PJs), special operations weathermen (SOWT) and support personnel.
The 720th STG organizes, trains and equips ST forces worldwide to integrate, synchronize, and/or control the elements of air and space power in the area of operations. It also provides long-range operational and logistics planning, and deploys command and control elements during special tactics force employment or deployment.
Special Tactics squadrons (STS) are specifically organized, trained and equipped to execute a myriad of Special Operations missions to enhance air operations deep in enemy territory. They conduct personnel recovery missions, collect intelligence and provide terminal guidance for attacks against valuable enemy targets.
SOWT generate high fidelity, localized, mission tailored forecasts for ingress, employment, and egress of air, land and sea forces in support Army's Special Forces Groups, the 75th Ranger Regiment, and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. A small number of SOWT operators are also assigned to ST units.
UNITS
The Group has seven squadrons in the continental United States - the 10th Combat Weather Squadron, 23rd STS and 720th Operations Support Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Fla., the 21st and 24th STS' at Pope Air Force Base, N.C., 17th ASOS at Fort Benning, GA, and the 22nd STS at McChord Air Force Base, WA.
The 720th STG is also the functional manager for AFSOC's two overseas STS': the 320th under the command of the 353rd Special Operations Group, Kadena Air Base, Japan, and the 321st under the command of the 352nd Special Operations Group at RAF Mildenhall, England.
