Current TSS Configurations
For tables in this section, the “TSS Installed Locations” column indicates where the TSS is located. The Visual Databases column(s) indicate which visual databases are assigned to the installed location. The FAA academy has a visual database for a fictitious airport location and therefore represented as “FAAA” which is a nonexistent airport location identifier. The FAA
Technical Center does not have any permanent visual databases assigned to their location and temporarily loads visual databases on their system as required.
TSS is currently deployed under three possible hardware configurations all with the same software configurations. All configurations have TSS with the same functionality and requirements to meet stakeholders’ needs. Some deployed TSS may have adapted layout, number of components, or specific to each facility. These configurations are as follows:
1. Large Configuration – in 28 locations with 44 systems providing for 133 visual databases
Figure 1: Large Configuration
The major components are:
10 100” projection screens
10 high definition projectors
3 32” monitors
9 24” monitors
7 12” touchscreen monitors
11 PC based image generators
12 PC workstations
Up to 4 training positions simultaneously
Incudes an instructor position
Up to 3 pseudo pilots

1 high end laptop
1 training position at a time
Incudes an instructor position
No pseudo pilots
Currently there is 1 Suitcase simulator available to be deployed. This type of system is appropriate for approximately 65 of the smaller airports.
