About this file
This document is a compilation of contract amendment and request for information (RFI) documents for the Arizona Department of Transportation's (ADOT) Tucson North Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) Renovation project. The primary parties involved include SD Crane Builders Inc. as the main contractor, Shive-Hattery as the design professional, and several subcontractors and specialty contractors such as Complete Earthworx and Concrete Arizona, LLC. The project is located at 7330 N Shannon Road in Tucson, Arizona, and involves renovations to an existing MVD building.
The contract amendments and RFIs address various technical modifications and clarifications, including storm drain rerouting, downspout repositioning, wall and footing modifications, and structural steel beam installations. The changes have financial implications, with several change orders detailing additional work and associated costs. For example, Complete Earthworx proposed a change order totaling $5,484.65 for storm drain and downspout work, while Concrete Arizona, LLC submitted a change order of $3,080.91 for footing modifications for a steel beam. The amendments incrementally increase the contract value, with one amendment showing an increase in the base bid from $2,610,544.50 to $2,640,222.85. The project appears to be in the course of construction, with ongoing technical adjustments to meet specific site conditions and design requirements.

This RFI is regarding the existing North wall of the building the East walls in offices 111, 112, the printer room, and office 114 and the West wall from public men’s restroom to the storefront AL05.
These walls have 1” of foam held to the wall with flat strap and 5/8” drywall attached to the flat strap leaving the drywall finish 1 5/8” off of the block wall. This will not allow room for a 4 square box and a mud ring. The plans also call for 1 1’4” data conduit that will not fit into a standard 4 square box.
One option is to demo the existing drywall and foam in these areas and fur out the masonry walls with either 1 5/8” or 3 5/8” steel framing. Please let us know how you would like us to move forward with this issue and is it acceptable to run 1” conduit for data that can be accepted by typical 4 square boxes or can you please provide a spec on the box you are wanting to use to accept the 1 ¼” conduit at all data locations. Please let me know if you have any questions.

This RFI is regarding the existing footing and stem wall as it differs from the details 105 and 106 on sheet S3.0 (see pictures attached). After removing the concrete and locating the existing footing, we would like to get clarification and direction on how to move forward with the new footing for the new columns at the center masonry wall. The existing footing measures 6.5” to 8” and has an 8”X17” stem wall above. Please provide direction and dimensions on how we should move forward with the install the dowels and footing. We had our third party inspector on site and they would like something in writing from the engineer for their inspection report as the dimensions and existing footing do not match the detail on S3.0. Please let me know if you have any questions.
